States of Defect


  • New-Bug recently created in the defect management tool
  • Open-Defect resolution is in progress
  • Assigned-Bug not yet resolved, but assigned to development team member.
  • Reopened-Bug not yet resolved but assigned to development team member.
  • Resolved-Resolution has been taken,QA verification awaited closure.
  • Rejected-The defect will be rejected if it is an invalid defect.
  • Postponed-The defect fix is postponed to further releases,if the functionality is not in the scope of current release.
  • Duplicate-If the same defect is already raised.
  • Cancelled-The duplicate defects are cancelled.
  • Verified-QA has retested the defect and found working as expected.
  • Closed-The bug is considered dead.
